Modern playgrounds often have recreational equipment such as the seesaw, merry-go-round, swingset, slide, jungle gym, chin-up bars, sandbox, spring rider, monkey bars, overhead ladder, trapeze rings, playhouses, and mazes, many of which help children develop physical coordination, strength, and flexibility, as well as providing recreation and enjoyment. Common in modern playgrounds are play structures that link many different pieces of equipment.

Nothing is more exciting to a kid than a great playground. But play areas need to be properly designed, maintained and supervised to be as safe for kids as possible. Falls are the number-one cause of injury on playgrounds, but the right equipment for a child’s age and soft surfacing can help keep playtime fun and safe.

A splash pad is an area for water play that has no standing water. This is said to eliminate the need for lifeguards or other supervision, as there is practically no risk of drowning. Splash pads have been around in the commercial industry for decades. Typically there are ground nozzles that spray water upwards out of the splash pad's raindeck. There may also be other water features such as a rainbow (semicircular pipe shower), a mushroom shower, or a tree shower. As well, some splash pads feature movable nozzles similar to those found on fire trucks to allow users to spray others. The showers and ground nozzles are often controlled by a hand activated-motion sensor, to run for limited time. Typically the water is either freshwater, or recycled and treated water, that is typically treated to at least the same level of quality as swimming pool water standards.

Outdoor shades are much more durable than indoor shades. They are specially constructed to stand up to the harsher outdoor environment -- sun, wind, rain, dust, and snow, heat and cold. Outdoor shades use special materials that are especially durable and resist fading. Support structures are treated to resist rust and corrosion and many are made of completely rust-proof materials. Mechanisms that control outdoor shade panels are extra durable, too, and electric motors for outdoor use are rated to safely work outdoors. And outdoor shades can be cleaned by just hosing them off. You can't say that about indoor shades!
